JULIE CAMPBELL
JOURNALIST AND FILMMAKER
I am a 24-year-old Rhodes University graduate with a Bachelor of Journalism and Media Studies specialising in television.
I am a hard-working, ambitious, creative, organised and enthusiastic person who is passionate about writing, photography, video journalism and the media as a whole. I am diligent and committed to excellence. I am compassionate, and interested in development and advocacy journalism.
I am a good team player as a result of working in television crews and serving on committees. I am professional, organised and possess initiative. I work well under pressure.
I am an all-rounder with many skills to offer, and I am very eager to develop these skills. I have a good knowledge of interviewing, scripting and writing for news, video editing, photography and Photoshop, and radio packaging. I am able to give and follow commands and to manage people. I have a good understanding of the media world, and the intricacies of media production.
I am fascinated by the role of cellphones, social media such as Twitter, and other new technology in making journalism.
I majored in English, and I write well with a good eye for detail. I am computer literate, and communicate well with others.
I have taught English as a second language at foundation level in Grahamstown schools for the last few years, and I feel strongly about the importance of education. This feeds into my love for development journalism.
Last year I worked as Campaigns Officer at Cape Town NGO Equal Education. This year I am working for 24.com, specifically for News24Live, which is South Africa's first online video studio.
In my spare time I play sport, read books and spend time with friends and family.
